The names of six senators, all Democrats who voted against Adm. Henry H. Mauz Jr.'s nomination to retire as a full admiral, were inadvertently omitted from Wednesday's editions of The Virginian-Pilot.
The senators were Barbara Boxer of California, Russell D. Feingold of Wisconsin, Howard M. Metzenbaum of Ohio, Carol Moseley-Braun and Paul Simon of Illinois, and Patty Murray of Washington.
Mauz's retirement with four stars was approved in a 92-6 vote. Opposition largely collapsed after Senate leaders agreed to a study of the way such nominations are reviewed by the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Pentagon. by CNB
