WHERE IS COURTESY?

The worst example that we can set for our children is to continue to bash each other.

Whatever happened to decency?

It seems to me that those who talk most about ``family values'' are doing the most damage. ``Don't love your enemies; hate them and encourage others to do the same'' seems to be what they are saying.

I miss these words of yesteryear: ``My worthy opponent.'' The absence of courtesy disturbs me.

I found some words, written by J. F. Clarke (1810-1888) - an American Unitarian clergyman, that we need to hear:

``A politician thinks of the next election; a statesman of the next generation. A politician looks for the success of his party; a statesman for that of his country. The statesman wishes to steer, while the politician is satisfied to drift.''
