TOO MUCH JAIL OUTCRY

I think there is entirely too much griping and fault finding on the regional jail that is proposed to be built in the Hattonsville area.

(Related article Page 7.)

First, the railroad tracks have been barricaded for years to stop traffic from entering Hattonsville from the south. The jail would be built on the south side of the track.

The present City Jail is surrounded by apartment buildings that are home to many people who live in the same block that the jail is located.

At one time the City Jail was located on the corner of Green and North streets. Homes were situated all around the jail. North Street Church was and still is on the very same corner that the jail was on.

During all of the years that this situation went on, there never were any outcries from people that the jail disrupted the lives of their neighborhood or brought down the standard of their community.

People just kept going about their business as usual.

Sometimes, that's what we need to do.
