WOMAN KILLED IN WRECK WAS WIDOW OF ECSU PROF

An Elizabeth City woman killed in a two-car crash this week was identified Thursday as Katie Shephard Wamack, widow of a popular Elizabeth City State University professor.

Wamack, 77, died Wednesday morning after her 1990 Buick sedan collided with a 1983 Chevrolet pickup driven by Stephen Paul Bundy, 24, of Elizabeth City.

Bundy was traveling south on Halstead Boulevard when Wamack slowly pulled onto the highway from Brookridge Drive, where she resided.

Bundy tried to avoid a collision but his vehicle struck the sedan, causing it to spin into a water-filled ditch, according to a police report.

An ECSU student who saw the accident tried to save Womack with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation but was unable to revive her. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Albemarle Hospital.

Bundy was not injured in the crash, the report said.

Police said Thursday no charges will be filed.

Wamack, a native of New Bern, was the widow of Timothy Hiram Wamack, an associate professor of social sciences and student teacher supervisor at ECSU from 1948 until his death in 1972.
