WEAPON USED IN KILLING BEING SOUGHT BY POLICE

Police are seeking help in recovering the weapon used in the Sept. 18 murder of Vernon Lee Jones, who was shot and killed in front of his home in the 2100 block of Kentucky Ave.

Police believe Jones, 40, was shot with an AK-47 assault rifle during an argument, said Mike Simpkins, public information officer.

Antonio Lamon Jefferson, 21, formerly of the 400 block of Benn St., was arrested Sept. 25 after he turned himself in at police headquarters, Simpkins said. Jefferson was charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was released from Western Tidewater Regional Jail on $50,000 bond.

Anyone with details of the incident or information that leads to the recovery of the murder weapon is asked to call Suffolk Police at 925-6357 or Crime Line at 539-1222.
