Two police officers on routine patrol in the Campostella area about 9:10 p.m. found the woman on the pavement in the 1100 block of Poppleton St. She was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
Police said the woman had no identification. She is described as black, in her late 20s and weighing about 300 pounds. She was wearing what might be a nurse's uniform - white pants, and a white shirt with red and blue designs. She also was wearing a gray, tweed coat.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Line at 441-5100.
Police said they have no suspects or motive for the shooting.
