AUBREY SKEETER: KIWANIS CLUB'S NEW PRESIDENT

FIVE YEARS AGO, when Aubrey Skeeter was invited by a co-worker to his first Kiwanis meeting in Suffolk, he probably never thought that someday he'd be leading the group.

Last month, Skeeter was voted in as the new president of the Kiwanis Club of Suffolk.

And for Skeeter, it's a natural fit.

One of the reasons he gives for joining the group five years ago is the organization's purpose: to serve those in the community.

``It enriches the spiritual values of the indivdual involved,'' he says. ``And it involves some of the things I've always been concerned about - helping others. It just fits into my standards.''

He spends between five and 10 hours a week taking care of the club's business, which at the moment involves trying to coordinate a Christmas program for about 40 needy Suffolk children between the ages of 4 and 10.

``We invite the kids to our meeting place,'' Skeeter says. ``Usually the Salvation Army brings them in. Each kid gets a gift from Santa, dinner - and we sing Christmas carols. It's exciting for them.''
