`ROUTINE' CLAIMS LIVES

The Navy community and the entire country mourned the recent death of Lt. Kara Hultgreen, who went down in her F-14A Tomcat during ``routine exercises'' in the Pacific.

This tragedy reminds us of the dangers most active-duty military personnel face each day, in peace and war. Taking off and landing on an aircraft carrier is as dangerous during peacetime ``routine exercises'' as during combat operations. The men and women who fly these aircraft, our finest and bravest warriors, deserve our eternal gratitude and respect.
