MILDRED P. WHITFIELD

Mildred Cooper Parson Whitfield, 77, of the 900 block of Wolcott Ave., died Monday, Dec. 12, 1994, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Mrs. Whitfield was a native of Princess Anne County and the daughter of the late Willis H. and Flossie Walk Cooper. She was the widow of William Whitfield. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Music and song were the joys of her life. She was a member of the Senior Choir at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and was also a member of the Gospel Flight Choir of Chesapeake.

Survivors include two daughters, Ella Parker of Norfolk and Mildred Leah Campbell of Virginia Beach; four sons, the Rev. Linwood Parson of Morton, Pa., the Rev. William T. Parson of Winston-Salem, N.C., William Whitfield Jr. of Washington, D.C., and Benjamin Whitfield, U.S. Army, stationed in Korea; a sister, Evelyn Whitehurst of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Willis Hugh Cooper of Norfolk and Lloyd L. Cooper of Virginia Beach; 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 934 W. Little Creek Road by the Rev. Keith Cook. Burial will be in Hampton National Cemetery. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Riddick Funeral Service. The body will be placed in church at 11 a.m. Thursday and the family will assemble and greet friends at the church at noon. At other times the family will be at 669 Masefield Arch, Virginia Beach, the home of the Rev. Thomas and Mildred Leah Campbell.
