JAMES A. FLEMING JR.

James Al Fleming Jr., 70, of the 400 block of Caren Drive, retired owner and operator of Fleming Shoe Store, died Dec. 15, 1994, in Norfolk.

Mr. Fleming was born in Norfolk and was a member of Park Place Baptist Church. A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific, China, with the 6th Marine Division, and participated in the landing at Okinawa. He attended William and Mary College and Old Dominion University. He established the Virginia Beach Detachment of the Marine Corps League, 15th Marines Division.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Higgins Fleming; two daughters, Nancye Fleming Luisi of Pittsburgh and Marianne Fleming of Virginia Beach; a son, James A. Fleming III of Virginia Beach; a sister, Mary Frances Snowden of Virginia Beach; a brother, Capt. Thomas E. Fleming, USN (Ret.) of Coronado, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Melissa Anne Fleming and James Michael Grey Fleming.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, by Father Edward L. Richardson and the Rev. James Nowell. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. A Marine Corps memorial service will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home, where the family will remain until 9 p.m. The family will also receive friends at 3848 S. Plaza Trail, Virginia Beach.
