MAN CHARGED WITH TRYING TO ABDUCT ESTRANGED WIFE

A 27-year-old man was arrested Thursday and charged with trying to abduct his estranged wife from her office, police said.

The man, identified as Andre J. Griffin, was dressed in his security guard uniform when he went to his wife's office in the 4400 block of Corporation Lane on Dec. 2, police spokesman Mike Carey said.

Carey gave this account of what happened:

Griffin was on his way home from his security job when he stopped at the office of estranged wife, Stephanie, 24.

He went inside, grabbed her and dragged her outside. Then he tried to shove her into his car.

Stephanie Griffin fought back and escaped. She ran back into her office.

Andre Griffin went to his car and grabbed a nightstick. He again went into the office and threatened his estranged wife and another worker with the club.

Someone called police, and Andre Griffin fled before they arrived.

Carey said the estranged husband eluded police for about three weeks until he turned himself in to detectives Thursday morning at 8a.m.

He had moved from the couple's residence and was staying with friends.

Detective Don Rimer charged Griffin, who last lived with his estranged wife in the 800 block of C Ave. in Norfolk, with attempted abduction.

He is in jail on $7,500 bail.

A bond hearing is scheduled for today.
