POLICE VEHICLE COLLIDES WITH CAR; THREE INJURED

A patrol car with two police officers collided with an auto driven by a 27-year-old woman late Wednesday night, sending all three to local hospitals, police said.

Police said this is how the accident happened:

Officers M.M. Felix and T.M. Rumley were headed west in the 3400 block of E. Ocean View Ave. about 10:56 p.m. when a car pulled in front of them, causing Felix, who was driving, to lose control.

The police car swerved into the eastbound lanes and hit a 1990 Suzuki driven by Annisha D. Kee, who is stationed aboard the destroyer tender Yellowstone.

Felix, 28, and Rumley, 27, who were responding to a call of shots fired in the 1200 block of E. Ocean View Ave., were both knocked unconscious.

Felix was released from a hospital after being treated for cuts and bruises. Rumley suffered cuts, bruises and possible internal injuries, and was listed in stable condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Kee was hospitalized with a broken arm, bruises and possible back injuries.

The 1994 Chevrolet Caprice police cruiser and the Suzuki were total losses. Seatbelts were worn, and air bags in the police cruiser deployed during the collision, police said.

No charges have been placed, and an investigation is continuing.
