The City Council took the following actions at its meeting Wednesday:

Consideration of a conditional rezoning request from heavy manufacturing to low medium density residential (conditional) for the expansion of Walnut Hill Estates subdivision off Mahlon Avenue and Locust Street in Cypress Borough. Approved, 7-0

Consideration of a conditional rezoning request for the old Safeway building property at North Main Street and Constance Road from general business and general business in a historic and cultural conservation district to conditional general business. Southern Oil Co. has bought the property for commercial purposes. Approved, 7-0

Consideration of a conditional use permit to build a 20-unit, multifamily housing project at the corner of White Marsh Road and Locust Street. Milteer: motion to deny. Approved, 7-0

An ordinance to appropriate $121,781 for buying equipment related to drug investigations through the Police Department.

An ordinance accepting and appropriating a grant of $90,000 from the U.S. Department of Defense, Office of Economic Adjustment, and appropriating $12,000 in matching city funds for preparation of a community reuse plan for the former Driver Naval Radio Transmitting Facility. (second reading) Approved, 7-0

Consideration of a request for rezoning from rural residential to general business for the continued use and expansion of Nansemond Heating and Cooling. No vote necessary.

Motion to establish a City Council work session for Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 5:30 p.m. unless canceled. Approved, 7-0

Motion to provide a 3 percent retirement allowance increase for all current and future city retirees. Approved, 7-0 by CNB
