MAITLAND G. FREED

Capt. Maitland Guy Freed, 62, of Virginia Beach, Va., died Jan. 4, 1995 in Chesapeake General Hospital.

Capt. Freed was a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, and was a graduate of Guilford College, Greensboro, and the University of North Carolina School of Law. During his Naval career, Capt. Freed served as Circuit Military Judge, Tidewater Judicial Circuit, Norfolk, Va., from 1978 to 1985, thus earning The Legion of Merit Award from the President of the United States in June of 1985. After his retirement from the Navy, Mr. Freed was a partner in the law firm of Wilcox, Woods and Freed.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jay Freed, and son, Jacob Wells Freed, of Virginia Beach; and one brother, Samuel Wells Freed of Chevy Chase, Md.

A memorial service will be held at the Little Creek Amphibious Base on Monday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m., followed by visitation at the conclusion of the service. Burial, with military honors accorded, will be at Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, Jan. 12, 1995, at 3 p.m. The family asks for omission of flowers, and donations to be made to the National Cancer Society. Kellum Funeral Home, Pleasant Hall, Kempsville Chapel, is handling arrangements.
