The much-touted match at 130 between Currituck freshman David Lowe and Manteo senior Chris O'Neill ended with O'Neill taking the championship.

In the Big East Conference tournament, New Bern, the defending champs, took first place with 235 points. Northeastern took second place at 176.

Ernest Sutton, who won his third Big East championship at his third different weight, was named the tournament's most outstanding wrestler.

Rob Eckerfield claimed the 103-pound championship, upping his record to 20-0 on the season by pinning Greenville Rose's Mike Crawford in just 15 seconds.
