WOMEN ARE FLIPPING FOR UPS MEN: IS IT THE UNIFORM?

There's something about a man in a brown UPS uniform.

The Wall Street Journal reported recently that UPS men have become sex objects, with women in offices arranging their days to be on hand to watch UPS carriers make deliveries. (About 93 percent of UPS carriers are men.)

``There's that moment,'' said a New York therapist, ``when he's handing you the package and you're both holding it. . . . It's very meaningful.''

A Minneapolis consultant to executive secretaries said, ``Here's a man I can count on - even if I can't count on any other men in my life.''

According to The Wall Street Journal, ``Brown-collar fantasies have spilled over into books, plays, television shows and rock songs.'' And even the company's phone number is provocative: 1-800-PICK-UPS.

We are reminded of a black Labrador retriever we know that has a crush on its UPS man. The man makes frequent deliveries to the dog's house, and usually plays with the dog a few minutes.

The dog has never seen two of the distinctive UPS trucks together, so whenever the dog goes for a ride and sees a UPS truck, it naturally assumes the driver is its buddy. The dog goes crazy with happiness, nearly deafening its owner with its barking. by CNB
