BOMB THREAT EMPTIES NEWPORT NEWS HIGH SCHOOLS

ILLUSTRATION: PAUL AIKEN/Staff

Virginia State Trooper W.E. Hoggard Jr. leaves Denbigh High School

in Newport News with his bomb-sniffing dog, Plastique, after a

search failed to turn up any explosives Wednesday. About 7,000

students from all five of the city's high schools were sent home

about 10 a.m. after a bomb threat was called in to the central

office. The other 37 schools in the city remained in session. All of

the high schools were to open at the normal time today.
