WILLIAM COLLYER LINN SR.

William Collyer Linn, 89, died on Saturday, March 4, 1995, in Marquetee Manor Health Care facility.

He was born in Norfolk, Va., Aug. 13, 1905. He attended the College of William and Mary from 1924-1928 during which time he was a member of the Flat Hat Club, Sigma Nu, and was one of two juniors selected for ODK. He was editor of the Colonial Echo and majored in business administration. For a short time he was with C & P Telephone Co., but in 1936 he joined J.H. Monteath Co. in New York City. Two years later he joined the Hoosier Veneer Company in Indianapolis, Ind., and served as executive vice president until his retirement in 1970.

Mr. Linn had served as president of the American Walnut Manufacturers Association and of the Fine Hardwoods Association. He was co-founder of the Hardwood Exhibit at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. During World War II he served as an industry representative to the War Production Board.

During his years of retirement, while living in Williamsburg, Va., Mr. Linn helped raise funds for the College of William & Mary, and worked for the Red Cross. He also served Meals on Wheels. He and his wife, Matilda, returned to Indianapolis in 1981 where they have resided at Marquette Manor. They would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary next month.

Mr. Linn is survived by his wife, Matilda Daugherty Linn, three married children, Wm. Collyer Linn Jr., Elizabeth Linn Traubman, Christopher S. Linn, and six grandchildren. Thanksgiving, 1994, the children and grandchildren gathered in Indianapolis for a family reunion.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Soup Kitchen, Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, 418 E. 34th St., Indianapolis, Ind., 46205 where Mr. Linn was a member for 50 years.

Services will be held at Marquette Manor, Monday, March 13, at 2 p.m., visiting with family members at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements are by Leppert & Hurt Mortuary.
