VIRGINIA J. BARBER

Virginia Jones Barber, 86, of Route 1 in the Pea Ridge community, died Friday morning at Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City.

A native of Onslow County, N.C., born March 17, 1909, Mrs. Barber was the daughter of the late George L. and Mrs. Sudie Vanhorn Jones. She was married to W. Asa Barber, who died in 1972. She was a farmwife and member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and had been active in Pea Ridge community affairs as well as a member of the Mid-County Volunteer Fire Department's Auxiliary.

Surviving are two sons, William ``Billy'' Barber and Mahlon Barber, both of Chesapeake; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Royce Williams officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Memorial Gardens in Plymouth. The family will make their headquarters at the residence of Bill and Christine Barber at 1416 Holly Neck Road, Roper, N.C., and will receive friends at Horner-Walker Funeral Home, Plymouth, from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
