BOND IS FIXED AT $250,000 FOR DRIVER ACCUSED OF KILLING 2 AFTER POLICE CHASE

A General District Court judge set a $250,000 bond on Thursday for Arnold Oscar Peterson, the Virginia Beach man charged in January with killing two people while allegedly driving drunk and leading police on a high-speed, 15-mile chase.

Traffic Judge Lawrence C. Lawless said during a bond hearing that, should Peterson make bail, another hearing would be scheduled to set the conditions of his release.

Defendants usually post 10 percent of their bond to make bail.

On Jan. 21, Peterson led Virginia Beach, Norfolk and state police on a chase from Virginia Beach to Norfolk. Peterson's van collided with a 1983 BMW near the Brambleton Avenue exit from Interstate 264.

William L. Rosbe, 50, and Theresa G. Timms, 40, died instantly when their car was struck, overturning several times, at Duke Street and Brambleton Avenue, according to police.

Peterson was free on a $7,500 bond pending trial on a previous DUI charge in Virginia Beach when the fatal accident occurred, Thursday's testimony showed.

His preliminary hearing was continued until April 17 at 2:30 p.m.
