HERBERT M. BRETT

Herbert Maurice Brett, 81, of Main Street, died April 19, at home.

Mr. Brett was born in Winton and was the son of Henon and Bertha Brett. He retired after 27 years as Postmaster and founded Winton Insurance Agency. He was educated at Winton Public School and Guilford College.

He was a life-long member of Winton Baptist Church, where he served as Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, and Chairman of the Board of Deacons. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II, and he remained active in The Gideons International, Winton Masonic Lodge (NU)723, Sudan Temple, and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Taylor Piland Brett; a daughter, Kathryn Brett of Spruce Pine, NC; a son, Herbert Brett of Virginia Beach, Va; a brother, Vernon Brett of Myrtle Beach, SC; and grandchildren, Jennifer Brett of Augusta, Ga and Jessica Brett of Emerald Isle, NC.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Winton Baptist Church by the Rev. Stephen Moore, the Rev. Daniel Spell, and Navy Chaplain Captain Robert Fiol. Burial will be in Ahoskie Cemetery, Ahoskie, NC.
