LOCAL POLICE ARE ASKING PUBLIC ASSISTANCE

VIRGINIA BEACH

Sometime during the night of Sunday, April 30, thieves broke into Lynnhaven Middle School, 1250 Bayne Drive, in the Great Neck section.

Once inside, they sprayed fire extinguishers, ripped electrical wiring from the walls and broke windows.

They also stole several computers, printers and accessories, VCRs, televisions, microwave ovens, a coffee maker, stereos, camcorders, CD players and CDs.

None of the property has been recovered and no arrests have been made.

On Tuesday, May 30, about 10a.m., the First Virginia Bank branch at 3112 Virginia Beach Blvd. at Kings Grant Road was robbed.

A photograph was taken of the robber who is described as white, in his 30s or 40s, with short dirty-blond hair and a thin build. He was wearing a striped polo shirt and a white baseball cap with ``Caddy'' written on it.

On Tuesday, June 13, about 9:30 a.m., the Central Fidelity Bank branch in the 5100 block of Princess Anne Road in Kempsville was robbed.

A photograph was taken of the robber, who is described as black, in his 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build, short hair and long fingernails.

He was wearing a dark leather baseball cap, a green hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

PORTSMOUTH

On Saturday, June 10, George Walker Jr. was in the garage of his home when his wife heard several gunshots.

She went to the garage to check on her husband and found him lying on the floor with several gunshot wounds. Rescue personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

According to witnesses, two men were seen running from the area immediately after the shots. There is no known motive for the shooting and police are still searching for the killers and any other witnesses.

The only description available for the killers is that they were black.

CHESAPEAKE

Robert Gassler, 32, is wanted for failing to appear in court to face a charge of construction fraud.

Gassler is described as white, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, 190 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

James Holley, 31, is wanted for violation of probation and has been known to carry a weapon.

Holley is described as black, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 135 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He also has a scar on his right hand.

SUFFOLK

On June 17, a man came into Barr Brothers' Jewelry Store in the 100 block of North Main Street and asked to see a particular diamond ring.

The clerk took the ring from the showcase to let the man examine it. The man then pulled out a small-caliber handgun, took the ring and fled.

The robber is described as black, in his 20s, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 105 pounds, wearing a blue and grey stripped shirt and dark pants.

During the night of June 26, thieves burglarized three vehicles at Mike Duman Auto Sales on Constance Road.

The first vehicle was a 1993 Cadillac, from which all four hubcaps were taken.

The second was a 1991 Geo Storm on which a passenger window was shattered and the AM/FM stereo cassette was taken. The third vehicle was a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder in which a window was shattered.
