HENRY F. GRINALDS

Henry F. ``Hank'' Grinalds passed away on July 7, 1995, at his home in Liberty Lake, WA. He was born on Dec. 21, 1927, in Norfolk, Va. He was a resident of Spokane for 50 years. He was in the military during WWII and went to England, Germany and Belgium. After returning home he was stationed in San Antonio, Texas, and then transferred to Gieger Field in Spokane. Upon being discharged in 1946, he made his home here in Spokane.

After being discharged from the service he worked for W.P. Fuller Glass Co. for 13 years. Then, in 1959, he formed Acme Glass. In 1976, Hank built up his glass business to include businesses in Missoula, MT., Coeur D'Alene, ID, and three distribution centers in Spokane known as H.G. Enterprises. During his life in Spokane, he built nearly 29 homes, and then took his construction abilities to build commercial buildings consisting of office buildings, warehouses, retail stores and several retail strip malls.

Hank was a member of the Spokane Valley Rotary Club for 30 years. During his membership, he was elected president in 1975. While president, his main project was to chair and construct a Spokane Valley Senior Citizens Recreation Center at Mission and Bowdish in the Spokane Valley. It was named the H.F. Grinalds Rotary Senior Citizens Center. In 1976, he became a Rotary Paul Harris fellow. Following that in 1976, he sold his glass business and built his semi-retirement home on Liberty Lake, where he resided until his death. At the time of his death, he was in the process of building his largest building at 11707 E. Sprague in the Spokane Valley. This building contains the only glassed-in elevator which is visible from Sprague Avenue.

He was also a member of the Northside Eagles Club and the Valley Elks Club. He was an avid skater in his younger life. He was a very avid golfer. He also collected Bald Eagle memorabilia such as plates, pictures, porcelain figurines and newspaper articles about the eagle. He also loved collecting antique cars over the years. His collection included a 1956 T-Bird and a 1977 Rolls Royce.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Thelma Grinalds in 1992. He is survived by his three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Tusant, Mrs. Nancy Mortlock and Mrs. Karen Altmeyer; one son, Randall K. Grinalds; five granddaughters; five grandsons; three sisters, Mrs. Audrey Hale and Mrs. Sara Erlandson, both of Virginia Beach, and Mrs. Mary R. Gleason of Richmond, Va.; and a very devoted friend, Mrs. Helen Weston.

Funeral services will be held at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, N. 1306 Pines Road, Spokane, WA, on Wednesday, July 12, 1995, at 3 p.m. Entombment will follow at the Pines Cemetery Mausoleum.
