CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS

MEMO: City Council meetings are telecast live beginning at 7 p.m. on Municipal

Access TV/Channel 13 on Falcon Cable. Telecast is repeated at 10 a.m.

and 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The work session on the fourth

Wednesday is taped and aired at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. the following

Thursday through Sunday.

The City Council took the following actions at its meeting

Wednesday:

A. Consideration of Rezoning Request RR18-94 (Conditional) for

rezoning approximately nine acres of land area from R-1, Low-Medium

Density Residential to M-1, Light Manufacturing (Conditional) for

proposed warehouse/storage buildings and B-2, General Business

(Conditional) for a proposed gas station/convenience store with car

wash and fast food restaurant. Approved, 6-1

B. Consideration of Rezoning Request RR7-95 (Conditional) for

rezoning approximately 112 acres of land area from RR-Rural

Residential to R-3, Low-Medium Density Residential (Conditional) and

approximately .1 acre of land area from B-2, General Business to

R-3, Low-Medium Density Residential (Conditional) for residential

development. The rezoning request was changed to R-2 by the council,

who was concerned about the density of R-3 zoning. Approved, 6-1

C. Consideration of Rezoning Request RR8-95 for rezoning

approximately 80.36 acres of land area from RR-Rural Residential to

A-Agricultural and approximately 5.6 acres of land area from R-1,

Low-Medium Density Residential to A-Agricultural for agricultural

use. Approved, 7-0

D. Consideration of Rezoning Request RR9-95 for rezoning

approximately .85 acres of land from B-2, General Business to M-1,

Light Manufacturing for a proposed office/warehouse use to include

sheet metal storage and sheet metal fabrication for duct work.

Approved, 7-0

E. Consideration of Rezoning Request RR11-95 (Conditional) for

rezoning approximately 142 acres of land area from RR-Rural

Residential to R-1, Low-Medium Density Residential (Conditional) for

residential development. The council made a motion to send the

rezoning request back to the city's Planning Commission. Approved,

7-0

F. Consideration of Conditional Use Permit Request C9-95 for a

permanent single-wide mobile home. Approved, 7-0

A. An ordinance to appropriate a grant award of $3,750 from the

Virginia Commission for the Arts for fiscal year 1995-96 - Second

Reading. Approved, 7-0

B. An ordinance to appropriate a grant award of $200,541 from the

Library of Virginia for the Suffolk Public Library System - Second

Reading. Approved, 7-0

C. An ordinance appropriating $42,594 for the Victim Witness

Assistance program - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0

D. An ordinance appropriating $33,599 for Drug Enforcement and

Prosecution by the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney - Second

Reading. Approved, 7-0

E. An ordinance appropriating $64,242 for Drug Enforcement and

Prosecution in the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney through

intensified drug enforcement assistance - Second Reading. Approved,

7-0

F. An ordinance appropriating $55,900 for a study of the

feasibility of cash proffers. First reading (no vote)

G. An ordinance accepting and appropriating a grant award in the

amount of $25,000 from the Chesapeake Bay Local Assistance

Department. First reading (no vote)

A. Resolution concerning Sportsman Boulevard. Approved, 7-0

B. Resolution requesting the Virginia Department of

Transportation to include Chatham Road, Burning Tree Lane, Woodberry

Crescent, Swansea Circle, Foxwood Place, Kendall Way, Brightton Mews

and Fincastle Court in the Chatham Woods Subdivision into the State

Secondary Road System. Approved, 7-0

C. Resolution requesting the Virginia Department of

Transportation to accept and include a portion of additional right

of way and the abandonment of a portion of Eberwine Lane, Route 697,

from the Secondary System of State Highways. Approved 7-0

D Resolution establishing a policy as to city payment of a

portion of retiree health insurance premiums. The council amended

the resolution to include only those employed by the city for 20

continuous years. Approved 7-0

A. Consideration of funding for Community Development Block Grant

Funding. Approved, 7-0

B. Establish a City Council Work Session for Wednesday, Aug. 2,

1995, at 5 p.m. unless cancelled. Approved, 7-0
