HENRY R. DOWDY JR.

Henry R. Dowdy Jr., 62, a retired ships serviceman and foreman, died July 21, 1995, in Norfolk.

Mr. Dowdy was born in Blacksburg, Va. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 21 years and from civil service after 20 years, was a Baptist, a Navy veteran and served in Vietnam. He was a member of American Legion (NU)327.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Dowdy; three daughters, Susan Gail Niblett and Debra Lynn Crow, both of Norfolk, and Alice Faye Lampp of Orlando, Fla.; two sons, James Edward Hewitt of Alton, Ill., and Donald Ray Hewitt of Norfolk; four sisters, Emma Richmond of Princeton, W.Va., Ella Matherly of Baltimore, Md., Ida Fox of Clearwater, Fla., and Louise Yetsick of Carnegie, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, by Dr. Roscoe Musselwhite. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. Please make donations instead of flowers to Sentara Hospice Programs, Koger Executive Center, Bldg. 8, Suite 201, Norfolk, Va. 23502.
