N. LESTER BRAUN

N. Lester Braun, 88, of 5705 Barco Dr., died July 26, 1995, in Norfolk.

He was retired from the Civil Service and was also retired from the U.S. Coast Guard, where he was Chief of the Civilian Personnel of the 5th Coast Guard District for 36 years. He was born in Sheboygan, Wis., and was the widower of Sophie C. Braun.

He was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church, where he was involved in the Church Mens Club. He was also a previous member of BPOE Elks Lodge (NU)38 in Norfolk. He was awarded honorary lifetime membership of Norfolk Jaycees in 1978 and was a former instructor with Safety City in Norfolk, where, in the 1980s, the Norfolk School Board awarded him several commendations for his work. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his two sons, Wayne E. Braun and Donald N. Braun, both of Virginia Beach; one sister, Bernadine Perronne of Sheboygan, Wis.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday by Father Timothy Drake in St. Matthews Catholic Church. Burial will be at Princess Anne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the Jennifer Braun Memorial Fund, c/o Commerce Bank, 4592 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, Va. 23462.
