DOROTHY J. BRINKLEY

Dorothy J. Brinkley, 71, of the 100 block of N. Main St., a retired quality control supervisor, died Aug. 9, 1995, in Sentara Leigh Hospital.

Mrs. Brinkley was born in Suffolk. She retired from Planters Peanuts after 41 years; was the widow of John Wesley Brinkley, Sr.; a member of First Baptist Church, Main Street, Suffolk; Truth Sunday School class; worked in the nursery department; and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She was a member of Suffolk Women's Club; Christian Women's Club; and the A.A.R.P., national and local.

Survivors include a son, Melvin Dawson Pritchard, Sr. of Manassas, Va.; a sister, Ruth Louise Austin of Evansville, Ind.; a brother, Jesse Vernon Johnson, Jr. of Eatontown, N.J.; three grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; and two stepsons, S. Rudolph Brinkley of Raleigh, N.C., and John Wesley Brinkley, Jr. of Suffolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Todd Estes. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Friends may join the family in Hill Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and other times in the residence. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 237 N. Main St., Suffolk, Va. 23434 or to the American Cancer Society.
