IRENE B. LEWIS

Irene Bernard Lewis, 64, of the 1000 block of Fairlawn Ave., died Aug. 9, 1995, in Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Natchez, Miss. She was a dental office manager for Dr. James R. Lewis; a member of St. Johns A.M.E. Church, Norfolk; the chancel choir; and the Mary C. Williams Missionary Unit of the Nannie C. Phelps Missionary Society. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Women's Club of Norfolk, Kiski's, a former member of the Virginia Beach Civic Chorus and past president of Girls' Clubs, Inc. She was Mother of the Year 1994 - Mary C. Williams Missionary Unit of the Nannie C. Phelps Missionary Society.

Survivors include her husband, James R. Lewis, D.D.S.; two daughters, Arlene Denise Lewis of Richmond, Va., and Robin Lewis Curtis of Houston, Texas; two sons, Eric James Lewis of Arlington, Va., and Nathan Richard Lewis of Annandale, Va.; sisters, Ruth Bernard, Annie Dunmore and Marcella Washington, all of Natchez, Miss.; brothers, Benny Roberson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Clarence Roberson of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, David Curtis, Helen Curtis and Morgan Curtis; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Rebecca Twine and James Bernard.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Monday at St. Johns A.M.E. Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. I.W. Knight Sr. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. the morning of Aug. 14. A memorial service will be conducted by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at Hale Funeral Home, 2100 Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Irene B.
