OFFICER HURT

A police officer was injured Friday when the police car he was driving was struck by a pickup at an intersection.

The condition of officer J.W. Warren was not known Friday night, but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The accident happened about 1:45 a.m. while Warren was on routine patrol in Deep Creek. He was traveling on Military Highway and approaching State Street when a Chevrolet pickup crossed in front of the police car.

The driver of the pickup, Michael Dale Welch, 26, of the 900 block of State St., was charged with drunken driving, failure to yield and failure to wear eyeglasses.
