KILL DEVIL HILLS MAN HELD IN STABBING

An Ohio man was in stable condition Wednesday night after being stabbed in the stomach at an Outer Banks saloon late Tuesday night.

Rob Johnson of Dehanna, Ohio, was in intensive care at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Police said that about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Johnson was stabbed in the stomach at Port O' Call Gaslight Saloon. The saloon, on N.C. Route 12, was hosting an album release party for ``Southern Culture on the Skids,'' a Southern rock band that performed there Tuesday.

Police arrested Gene Lyman White, 33, of Kill Devil Hills in the stabbing. They charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and with inflicting serious injuries.

White is being held in the Dare County jail under a $10,000 bond.

``Apparently, they were arguing - I don't know over what - and White pulled a knife on Johnson,'' Kill Devil Hills Police Sgt. Jim Mulford said. ``It was a 3 1/2-inch folding pocket knife. Just a regular pocket knife.''

Patrons said the bar area was full, despite a mandatory evacuation of the entire Outer Banks earlier in the day in preparation for Hurricane Felix.
