SPANISH MACKEREL, SPOT, BLUES, PIGFISH ALL ARE CAUGHT

Pier fishing was fairly good along the northern beaches Friday.

A few Spanish mackerel and bluefish were landed during the morning on Kitty Hawk Pier. Pigfish and small croaker were taken during the afternoon.

Avalon Pier reported that bluefish were landed from the end of the pier. Nice spot, trout, small puppy drum and a few keeper flounder also were decked.

Fair numbers of spot, croaker, blues and a few trout were caught by anglers on Nags Head Pier.

A few small spot and croaker were taken on Jennette's Pier. Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier landed small bottom fish and gray trout.

On Hatteras Island, anglers on Rodanthe Pier caught spot and sea mullet. A handful of spot and bluefish were landed on Avon Pier. Frisco Pier reported good fishing, with plenty of spot and croaker taken.

Surf fishing was fair for small bottom fish along the beach from Corolla to Rodanthe.

Some mullet and croaker were beached by surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Spanish mackerel were taken early in the morning at Cape Point.

Bluefish, spot, croaker and a few flounder were taken during the day.

A few sheepshead were landed along the beach by the jetties behind the Cape Hatteras lighthouse.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was good Friday. Morning half-day charters caught plenty of Spanish mackerel and tailor bluefish.

Headboats fishing the sound caught lots of croaker, bluefish and small gray trout.

Croaker, sea bass and pigfish were landed by headboat fishermen in the ocean.

Tuna fishing improved northeast of Oregon Inlet, with good catches of 50- to 60-pound yellowfin tuna reported. Dolphin fishing was slow, as was billfishing.

Fair numbers of dolphin and a few wahoo were taken off Hatteras. Four billfish were released by the charter fleet.

The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 76.5 degrees Friday. MEMO: EDITOR'S NOTE: Because of an editing error, a reference to pampano came
