NORTHERN BEACHES REPORT FAIR CATCHES OF SPOT

Pier fishing for spot along the northern beaches was fairly good Tuesday.

Spot were taken sporadically on Kitty Hawk Pier throughout the day.

A shark and a few spot were caught by anglers on Avalon Pier.

Nags Head Pier reported scattered spot landed, including a whopper weighing 1 pound, 2 ounces, taken by John Swanson of Richmond.

Spot, croaker and a 3 1/2-pound speckled trout were decked on Jennette's Pier. Outer Banks Pier reported good numbers of spot, a few nice croaker and some pigfish.

On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe pier reported good numbers of spot, a few croaker and some small gray trout.

Spot, croaker and sea mullet were landed by fishermen on Avon Pier.

Fishing was good on Frisco Pier, with spot, croaker, mullet, pigfish and a few bluefish taken.

Surf fishing was slow along the northern beaches Tuesday because of choppy seas.

Flounder and trout were landed from the catwalk on the south end of the Bonner Bridge at Oregon Inlet. Small bottom fish and a few bluefish were beached from the north side of the inlet.

A few small bottom fish were taken along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton, but rough seas slowed the action.

Some puppy drum were beached Tuesday morning at Cape Point. A handful of bottom fish and small bluefish were taken during the day.

Fishing in the surf was slow from Cape Point to Hatteras Inlet.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was fairly good, with Spanish mackerel and small bluefish taken.

Croaker, small bluefish and a few trout were landed by headboats in the Oregon Inlet area.

In Croatan Sound, big croaker and small bluefish were plentiful in the channel near the Manns Harbor bridge. Some nice-sized gray trout also were caught in the same area.

No offshore trips were attempted Tuesday, the result of gusty winds and rough seas.

Onshore winds should result in good speckled trout fishing in the sound during the next couple of days.

The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 76.5 degrees Tuesday. by CNB
