PIER FISHING WITHOUT PEER FOR ANGLERS SEEKING VARIETY

Pier fishing was fairly good along the Outer Banks Thursday, with a variety of fish reported.

Scattered spot, croaker and sea mullet were taken on Kitty Hawk Pier. Some tailor blues were landed on jiggers from the end of the pier.

Avalon Pier reported a good run of large spot, which lasted most of the day. Fishing was slow on Nags Head Pier and Jennette's Pier, with a few small bottom fish, trout and bluefish landed.

Good numbers of pompano were caught close to the beach on Outer Banks Pier, along with some sea mullet. Spot, a few Spanish mackerel and bluefish were taken further out on the pier. A small cobia was lost.

On Hatteras Island, nice spot, croaker, sheepshead and a few mullet were caught by anglers on Rodanthe Pier.

Spot, croaker, small bluefish and small flounder were landed on Avon Pier.

On Frisco Pier, bluefish were taken during the morning on cut bait fished on the bottom.

Spot, croaker, sea mullet and pompano were taken in the surf from Corolla to Oregon Inlet. Croaker and other small bottom fish were plentiful around Oregon Inlet.

Spot, croaker, mullet and pompano were landed by surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton. The best action has been early in the morning and late in the afternoon.

Some bottom fish, small blues, flounder and scattered pompano were taken Thursday by surf fishermen at Cape Point. Small bottom fish and gray trout were landed along the beach in the Frisco area. Jacks and small blues were beached in the surf at Hatteras Inlet during the morning.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was slow. Headboats in the area landed good catches of croaker around the Oregon Inlet bridge during the afternoon.

Yellowfin tuna fishing was good northeast of Oregon Inlet around the 41900 Loran line. Dolphin fishing was fair. Eighteen billfish were released by the Oregon Inlet and Pirates Cove fleets.

Wahoo fishing off Hatteras was excellent. The Release landed 11 big wahoo and released a number of small fish.

Dolphin fishing was good, billfishing was fair and scattered large tuna were taken. Sailfish were released by the Nancy K., the Citation and Harper's Folly.

Spot fishing should be good on ocean piers along the Dare Coast this weekend, providing the weather forecast for northeast winds holds true.
