ON THE MOVE: TWO REALTY GROUPS AGREE TO MERGE

The members of both the Suffolk-Franklin Association of Realtors and the Portsmouth/Chesapeake Association of Realtors have approved the merger of the two professional organizations, effective Jan. 1.

The new group will be called the Hampton Roads Association of Realtors and will comprise 425 Realtors as well as affiliate members. The group is seeking a new office, probably in the middle of the territory covered by the agents.

For the first year, the new board of directors will consist of those on the current boards with unexpired terms. For 1997, the board will be pared by two members.

Fred Helm of the PCAR is expected to serve as first president with Judy Whitley of the SFAR as president-elect.

Kudos: Ten agents from William E. Wood and Associates Realtors have been included among ``The Best of the Biggest,'' a listing of 4,000 top residential sales producers from across the country as determined by the editors of REAL Trends, a national newsletter for real estate executives.

Honored were Dale Dishman, Poquoson office; Barbara Adams, Great Neck, Georgie Frech, Kempsville; Tina Minter and Gail Garrington, Laskin Road; Mike Roberson and Faye Feinbaum, J. Clyde Morris office; Sherrie Pinaire, New Homes Department; Greta Wiltz, Kempsville, and Peggy Economidis, Haygood.

Wood's top agents for August were as follows: Teresa Jalbert, resale listings; Dale Dishman, resales; Doris Bonner, new home sales; Gladys Fain, property manager of the month, and Kaye Heins and Billie Levesque, relocation referrals.

More citations: Leading Edge Realty has honored Jesse Pugh as outstanding performer for August, Linda Allen as the top new homes agent, Terrence Atkinson for resales, Sue Veith for listings.

Leading Edge agents recently noted by the National Sales & Marketing Council were Linda M. Chris Stottlemyer, Lin Miller, Joyce McKeever and Jim Bryan of Long & Foster Real Estate had all settled home sales in excess of $1 million by July 30.

Best landlords: The Tidewater Multifamily Housing Council held its annual banquet last month and made the following awards:

Awards of Excellence - Reflections, Virginia Beach, managed by NHP Management Co.; Columbus Station, Virginia Beach, managed by The Dragas Cos., and Kings Grant Landing, Virginia Beach, KGLA Associates.

Renaissance Award of Excellence, for communities developed prior to 1975 - Tivoli, managed by Harbor Group Real Estate, and Mayflower Seaside Towers, managed by Cornerstone Realty, both in Virginia Beach.

Award of Excellence for subsidized communities went to Calvary Towers in Norfolk, managed by Harbor Group.

William Halprin of S.L. Nusbaum was named Property Manager of the year; Susan Glancy of Lake Village Apartments, Chesapeake, Resident Manager of the Year, and Marty York of Kingsbridge Apartments and Gene Melfy of Harbour North, Maintenance Supervisors of the Year.

Dan Bramos of Solon Automated Service of Chesapeake was named Associate Member of the Year.

Southern Living House Plans editor Lil Petrusnek is visiting Gatling Point in Smithfield next week for a story on five newly opened models. This marks the fifth time the subdivision has been featured in the magazine.

Update your address book: ERA Ed Trotman Real Estate broke ground for a new office last month at 1412 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, next to Orchard Square shopping center. It should be completed by the first of the year . . . Judy Boone Realty has a new location in Great Bridge at 217 S. Battlefield Blvd. . Portsmouth. Jo Ann Brooks and Sandra Johnson will serve as loan officers.

The Tidewater Builders Association will sponsor two seminars this month. Don Maxwell, director of the Virginia Beach Department of Economic Development, will update members on goings-on in that city at a noon luncheon on Thursday in the TBA boardroom. Deadline for registration is Monday.

The Tidewater Community Housing Resource Board will cosponsor an all-day seminar (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Oct. 24 on fair housing and the Americans With Disabilities Act at the Holiday Inn Executive Center, Virginia Beach. Registration deadline is Oct. 20.

Parade of Homes '96, the Peninsula's answer to the southside's Homearama, will be staged at The Lakes At Dare in York County. An upscale community, The Lakes contains 162 lots of a half-acre or larger surrounded by undisturbed woodlands amidst eight lakes.

Innovations: The Metro Multiple Listing Service has switched to a new electronic lockbox system that is safer than the old mechanical system and is also a source of information. The new system records all visits to a house for sale, including the time and date plus sales feedback.

A fast growing mode of residential construction is steel-framing, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute. Steel is strong, flexible and unappetizing to termites.
