JOHN M. ARN

John Arthur Melvin Arn died Thursday, Oct. 5, 1995, at his Virginia Beach home.

He was born in Uniontown, Pa., the son of the late Bertha Morris and Charles Melvin Arn. He graduated from Connellsville (Pa.) High School in 1942, where he was a Merit Scholarship student and Varsity swimmer. He was also active in the Boy Scouts of America, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Mr. Arn graduated as a Civil Engineer from the University of Pennsylvania in 1945, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Society. He was a retired Commander in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps. Upon retirement from the Navy, Mr. Arn worked for the Bechtel Corp. of San Francisco for 25 years. Mr. Arn was a member of all Saints Episcopal Church, The American Nuclear Society, and the Norfolk Chapter of the Navy League. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanore; three sons and their wives, Mr. Alfred M. Arn and his wife, Jennifer, of Chico, Calif., Mr. J. Scott Arn and his wife, Kim, of Boston, and LCDR Peter M. Arn and his wife, Courtney, of Manassas, Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Rod Elder of Bethel Park, Pa.; a nephew, Mr. Steven Elder of Bridgeport, Pa.; and nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Sarah, Ashley, Jeffrey, Audrey, Jonathan, Melissa and Justin.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 1995, at All Saints Episcopal Church by Dr. Stanley Sawyer, with a graveside service at 1 p.m. in Middletown, Md., at the Reform Church Cemetery. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road, handling arrangements.
