DARE COUNTY ART EXTRAVAGANZA WILL OPEN TODAY AT NAGS HEAD

The Dare County Art Council's sixth annual Artrageous Art Extravaganza will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in the parking lot at Central Square, near Hairoics.

The rain site is the Outer Banks Mall.

This free, all-day festival includes art-related crafts and activities for children and adults, demonstrations of works in progress by professional and amateur artists, live music, food and a display of professional works by Dare County artists.

Children's booths include flower pot painting, weaving, jewelry making, tambourine crafting, cookie painting, face painting, button making, potato printing and others.

Music will include the Manteo Middle School jazz band, a student band, ``Psycho Chicken,'' a drumming circle, local acoustic acts and an interactive percussion session - with instruments provided.

Sunday, artwork from children, adults and professional artists will be auctioned at the Village Beach Club beginning at 5 p.m. The Dare County Arts Council will donate half of the proceeds to a fund to build an Outer Banks youth center, and half to the nonprofit Arts Council's fund.
