UNITED WAY SENDS AID TO PORTSMOUTH

Several Portsmouth human service agencies will be allotted a one-time grant from The United Way of South Hampton Roads through its 1995 ``Human Needs Response Fund.''

The fund has set aside $85,000 to assist 12 area agencies.

The grants, allocated for a specific purpose, were made possible as a result of higher than normal pledges.

Children's Harbor will receive $10,000 for capital repairs to the center.

The Center for Youth will receive $3,000 to purchase an agency van.

The Miller Day Nursery will get $6,100 to replace the roof and electrical system.

The American Red Cross, Portsmouth/West Chesapeake Chapter, will receive $3,895 to purchase an agency van, and Help and Emergency Response will receive money to purchase a copier.

The United Way campaign will continue through Nov. 30. ILLUSTRATION: HOW IT WORKS
