HOLIDAY CHEER CITY'S TIME TO SHINE

Christmas is in the air.

Nippy weather this week prompted many to begin their shopping lists. Others started holiday planning. And the city has come alive with decorations and events.

The coming weekend will cinch the season.

The Downtown Portsmouth Association will kick off the season in concert with the third annual Gallery Art Show at Trinity Parish House, sponsored by Ports Events.

The art sales exhibition has been a highly successful event, attracting many buyers from out of town to Portsmouth. The caliber of the artists who participate in the show is ample testimony to the quality and success of the event.

This year the Olde Towne merchants have planned ``open house'' activities on Saturday and Sunday to attract visitors to High Street.

It's a fun way to start the holiday season in good taste and an excellent time for local residents to meet the folks who run downtown shops. Mark it on your calendar. by CNB
