ELISABETH L. TYLER

Elisabeth Lockwood Tyler, 87, of the 3100 block of Shore Drive, died Nov. 12, 1995, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Mrs. Tyler was born in South Orange, N.J., and lived in that area for a number of years. Her father later retired from the steel business and the family moved to Easton, Md. The Lockwoods then moved to the Lochaven section of Norfolk in 1924. She made her debut in Norfolk and graduated from the Warrenton Country Day School in Warrenton, Va. She was a former member of the Junior League of Norfolk/Virginia Beach and the Princess Anne Country Club. She was an avid gardener and a long-time member of both The Garden Club of Virginia and the Virginia Beach Garden Club. Also she was a strong supporter of the arts and a member of the Virginia Beach Center for the Arts since its inception. She was a member of The Norfolk Society of the Arts and an honorary member of the Monday Club. Mrs. Tyler was a member of Eastern Shore Chapel. Her husband, H. Gordon Tyler Jr. died in 1982.

Survivors include a sister, Bruce Lockwood Little of Charlottesville; brother, Herbert Watson Lockwood of San Diego; son, Fielding Lewis Tyler; and a daughter, Bruce Tyler Sewell, both of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Elisabeth Tyler Mathis of Paradise Valley, Ariz., Courtenay Tyler Vass of Tampa, Fla., Tyler Wainwright Sewell of Charlottesville; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 1995, at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Gary L. Rowe. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, P.O.
