Students at Independence Middle School were given a real treat in
October, when they surpassed their United Way fund-raising goal of
$1,000. Eighth-grade assistant principal Michael Halperin agreed to
take a pie in the face after the students raised $1,365.31. Iris
Nimmo, last year's eighth grade assistant principal, did the honors,
much to the enjoyment of student spectators.
