HORTENSE C. PACE

Hortense Crawford Pace, 74, of the 300 block of Charlotte Drive, died Nov. 28, 1995, in her residence.

She was a native of Portsmouth and was the widow of Joseph Charles Pace. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Otto Crawford and Bessie Lee Cole. She was employed at the gift shop in Portsmouth General Hospital for 14 years. Mrs. Pace was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church, Portsmouth.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane Pace Pauls of Conway, S.C., Elizabeth Santina Pace of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; three sons, Charles Ernest Pace of Portsmouth, Joseph Michael Pace of Oxnard, Calif., William Bruce Pace of San Diego; four sisters, Irene Crawford Hanbury of Portsmouth, Charlotte Crawford Lawrence of Portsmouth, Shirley Crawford Kelly of Canton, Ohio, and Sarah Crawford Swart of Oakton, Va.; four brothers, Clinton Otto Crawford of Chuckatuck, Va., Ernest Hugh Crawford of Richmond; Elbert Warren Crawford and Stanley Earl Crawford, both of Portsmouth; and three grandchildren, Kristin Fryar, Joseph Pauls, and Patrick Pauls.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Pinecrest Baptist Church by the Rev. Tom Potter. Burial is in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Cancer Society or to Pinecrest Baptist Church.
