NORFOLK - Janet Kierstead Broome, 77, of Selby Place, died Nov. 30, 1995, in Virginia Beach.

She was a teacher of journalism and history for juniors and seniors at Cradock High School and Norview High School. She was a native of Norfolk and a member of Larchmont United Methodist Church. She was a life member of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Christian Fellowship Class. She attended the Norfolk Division of William and Mary and graduated from James Madison University.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Harry T. Broome; daughter, Mrs. Fran B. Lane of Williamsburg; son, Mr. Alan Wesley Broome of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Ms. Frances Kierstead, Ms. Laura Kierstead, and Mrs. Mildred Dunn, all of Norfolk; four grandchildren, Christopher, Andy and Grace Lane of Williamsburg, and Casey Broome of Virginia Beach; and three nieces, Mrs. Joyce Barnes of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Judy Saunders of Norfolk, Mrs. Janice Rhoper of Leavenworth, Kansas.

A memorial service will be conducted today at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Dr. Jerry O. Campbell in Larchmont United Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Joseph and Kathleen Bryan Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at Duke University, 2200 West Main St., Suite A-230, Durham, N.C., or to the Larchmont United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling the arrangements.
