Local real estate brokerages are working to fulfill United Way pledges this season, says Harriet Doub, an agent with GSH Real Estate and '95 United Way real estate volunteer chairman.
``Where else,'' Doub asks, ``can you make an impact on so many needs, to benefit 69 certified agencies and reach approximately other groups by merely signing one card?''
So far this year, Doub reports, GSH had pledged more than $25,000, Womble Realty had nearly $12,000 and William E. Wood & Associates, $7,500.
Sarah Stedfast, a loan officer with Market Street Mortgage's Virginia Beach branch, has been elected president of the Tidewater Mortgage Bankers Association. A Virginia Tech grad, she is also a member of the Tidewater Association of Realtors.
Margaret Adams, who works in the same branch, will serve as TMBA treasurer. Fred Levine, assistant vice president and manager of the Beach branch, is the new chairman of the association's education committee.
The Prudential Decker Realty has announced its top agents for November. For sales, John Savino led the Lynnhaven office; Ann Davis, Beach; Randy Scott, Great Neck, and Bettie Wuthrich, Chesapeake.
Top listing agents were B.J. Basknight, Lynnhaven; Charlie King, Beach; Randy Scott, Great Neck, and Patsy Wyllie, Chesapeake.
Jim Reedy, director of the Chesapeake office of HouseMaster home inspection company, recently received awards for Best Telephone Technique and Best Field Idea at a company conference in Morristown, N.J.
Brenda Rawls and John Durham, both of Womble Realty, were the top company sales agents for October and November respectively. Rawls works in the Beach office, Durham in the Holland Road agency. No. 1 in listings were Karen Halpin of the Beach office, for October, and Becky Johnson of the Greenbrier office, November.
Others cited for October were Gary Lundholm and Sandy Preiser, Great Bridge office; Debbie Mustin, Lynnhaven; Toni Robertson, Holland Road; Anna Sullivan, Shirley Todd, Carol Bonser and Donn Irby, Great Bridge; and Dori Iwanowski, Beach, all in sales, and Anne ``Cookie'' Page, Lynnhaven; Brian Okuley and Sandy White, Great Bridge, and Sam Luke, Greenbrier, for listings.
November sales kudos went to Chris Curran, Beach; Okuley, Bonser, Irby and Gary Lundholm, Great Bridge; Lynn Hunt and Sharon Wade, Greenbrier; Steve Doll, Kempsville, and Marty Sawyer, Lynnhaven. Listing honors went to Lundholm; Karen Barnard, Greenbrier; Maggie Byrd, Holland Road, and Mustin.
Michael J.A. Nestor was recently promoted to director of maintenance with The Breeden Companies' apartment communities. Nestor was president of Nestor Construction Corp. for 25 years before joining Breeden in 1994.
The Hampton Roads Realtors Association was officially signed into existence Dec. 1. The merger of the Suffolk-Franklin Association of Realtors and the Portsmouth-Chesapeake Association of Realtors takes place Jan. 1. The office will initially be at 913 Halifax Ave., Portsmouth, the headquarters of the Portsmouth-Chesapeake group.
Fred Helm of National Realty, Chesapeake, will be the first president of the merged organizations; Robert Bain of R. Whitley Bain & Son, Ivor, president-elect; Amy Piland of Kline Realty, Portsmouth, vice president, and Peggy Byrd, Tidewater Properties, Suffolk, treasurer.
Century 21 At The Mall has created a marketing division and Bill Crespo will head it. The goal is to produce an additional 35 sales per month.
Housing stats: Workers' compensation added $4,321 to the cost of building a new home on the average in 1994, according to the National Association of Home Builders.
In Virginia, the average per-house cost was only $2,704, the second lowest in the United States, just ahead of Iowa, which recorded $2,505.
North Carolina ranked 38th, according to the NAHB, with an average cost of $3,152. Hawaii leads the nation with $6,906.
Lomas Mortgage USA, using U.S. Census figures, reports that Hampton Roads ranked 37th in the nation in single-family housing permits the first nine months of 1995 with 4,755.
The area was 31st in multifamily permits with 1,832. Over the past 12 months, using the U.S. base figure of 5, Hampton Roads rated a 5.4 on the ``market hotness'' scale, according to Lomas Mortgage.
High tech report: Sycom Technologies has a novel approach to selling its palm-sized Total Recall voice organizer.
Real estate agents, its news release says, will find it the perfect device for recording the info on ``For Sale By Owner'' signs they notice when cruising neighborhoods.
