DEAR SANTA, PLEASE FULFILL THESE WISHES

Being it's the holiday season, and I've already asked Santa for enough presents for myself, I've decided to present this wish list to the chubby one on behalf of the various high school athletic programs in the area.

Hopefully, all these wishes will come true.

Camden County - For Camden, I have asked for a 6-5 center for the boys basketball team, a replacement for Holly Meads when she graduates, and a 300-pound lineman (just one!) for the football team.

Cape Hatteras - For Cape Hatteras, I have asked for a new conference for the athletic teams to play in so they won't have to travel to ``Egypt'' just to play a conference game somewhere in Edgecombe County.

Currituck County - I have asked for the baseball team to have at least more than half the success they had last season.

Edenton-Holmes - I have asked for the football team to continue its relentless defense, and anything that Robert Woodley, Eastern Regional Coach of the Year, wants.

Northeastern - I have asked for some athletes that are academically eligible, 15 homeruns for Aaron Soodek, and the respect that football coach Eric McDaniels deserves.

Manteo - I have asked for a state championship for the boys basketball team, a replacement for Heather Daniels when she graduates, and better luck for Steve Basnight in his second season as football coach.

Perquimans County - I have asked that all of the Perquimans County teams, which are usually competitive in every sport, rise to the next level and win in the playoffs.

Albemarle Conference coaches - I have asked that some other school besides Williamston wins the conference, in any sport. MEMO: Jeff Zeigler covers Outer Banks and Albemarle sports for The Carolina
