EDWARD S. BRITT

Edward Stanley Britt, formerly of Murfreesboro, died Dec. 30, 1995, in Guardian Care Nursing Home in Ahoskie.

He was born in 1903 in Northampton County, son of the late Norfleet Franklin Britt and Verona Johnson Britt. He finished high school at Trinity Park in Durham, attended Trinity College, now Duke University, and later graduated from Norfolk Business College. He served as superintendent of a business school in Newport News, Va., before being employed at People's Bank in Murfreesboro. He later joined Riverside Manufacturing Co. as accountant and controller until his retirement.

Mr. Britt served his community in many capacities. He was a mayor of Murfreesboro; charter member and past president of Murfreesboro Rotary Club; charter member and first president of Beechwood Country Club. He was past chairman of the local school board and also district board. He was a Mason, having received 50 and 60 year pins.

At Murfreesboro Methodist Church, Mr. Britt had served as chairman of the Board of Stewards, Sunday School superintendent, Men's Bible Class teacher, Charge Lay leader and chairman of the Building Committee when the present church building was erected on High Street.

By nature, Stanley Britt was a quiet man. Active in business, civic and church life, he was known for his integrity, perseverance and fidelity to the highest standards of conduct.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Vera Usrey Britt; two daughters and their husbands, Alison and Dick Barron of Winston Salem and Vera and Bob Outland of Rich Square; three grandsons, Dick Barron of Winston Salem, Robert Outland of Baton Rouge, La. and Wright Outland of Rich Square.

A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to the charity of their choice.
