A 28-year-old woman who co-owns what her husband and business partner calls ``a large-scale professional escort service'' is missing, and foul play is feared, police said.
Stephanie F. Denney of the 1600 block of Darrow St. was reported missing by her husband, Robert W. Denney, on Saturday.
``As investigators began looking into the information they had been provided, they began to fear that foul play may be involved,'' said police spokesman Lou Thurston.
Robert Denney told police that he and his wife own the Denney Corp., an escort service located in the 5200 block of Challedon Drive. There was no answer at the company's office Sunday.
Police said that though they don't know what types of services the business provides, it may play a key role in the woman's disappearance.
Thurston said several former employees allegedly had made threats against the Denneys.
Stephanie Denney was last seen at 3:45 p.m. Saturday when she left her home to go to a tanning salon and a meeting with her company's business manager.
She did not show up at either appointment, police said.
In addition to the threats, Thurston said other details lead police to suspect foul play:
The disappearance is out of character, relatives said.
There are no known domestic problems.
Stephanie Denney did not take any personal items that someone leaving home normally would take.
The last threat against the Denneys was received Thursday, Thurston said. But he declined to discuss any details about the nature of the threat.
Stephanie Denney is described as white, 5 feet 6 inches tall, about 100 pounds with brown hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black leather jacket and white shoes.
She was driving a 1994 GMC Safari that is white with brown trim and has Virginia license plate ZTX-3197.
