RICHARD H. CHANEY SR.

Richard Herbert ``Dick'' Chaney Sr., 79, of the 400 block of Suburban Parkway, died Feb. 7, 1996, in his residence.

He was a retired HMC for the U.S. Navy after 22 years and he was also retired from the civil service as an aircraft mechanic at Naval Air Rework Facility where he worked for 19 years. He was a native of Barton, Md., and grew up in Detroit, Mich. He was a member of Zion Grace Untied Methodist Church where he was a member for 40 years. At the church, he served as Sunday school teacher for 20 years and was also with the church choir which he loved, as well as serving in numerous other positions with the church. He was a member of Elizabeth Masonic Lodge (NU)34 AF & AM Fleet Reserve Association, Norfolk Senior Center, and he was a U.S. Naval veteran of World War II.

He was a loving husband of 53 years to his wife, Frances Walker Chaney. Also surviving are three sons, Richard Herbert Chaney Jr. of Norfolk, David Charles Chaney of Virginia Beach, Michael Walker Chaney and his wife, Susan Michele Chaney of Hertford, N.C.; stepfather, Roy Schaffert of Warren, Mich.; three grandchildren, Richard Herbert chaney III of Virginia Beach, Andrea Michelle Chaney of Hertford, Cameron Edward Chaney of Hertford; two great-grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday by the Rev. Charles W. Hubbard Jr. in Zion Grace Untied Methodist Church. Burial is in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Grace United Methodist Church and/or Alzheimer's Association, 20 Koger Center, Suite 233, Norfolk, Va. 23502.
