VA. LOCALITIES ELIGIBLE FOR DISASTER, HOME AID AFTER '96 BLIZZARD

All Virginia cities and counties are eligible for federal disaster aid for snow removal costs from the Blizzard of 1996, federal officials announced Thursday.

In addition, Virginians whose homes were damaged or destroyed in the flooding that followed the January snowstorms may be eligible for temporary housing assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said Bob Gunter, federal coordinating officer for FEMA.

The declaration of eligibility for disaster aid allows the federal government to reimburse localities for the costs of equipment, contracts and personnel overtime required to clear emergency snow routes.
