Laura Hayes Bosch, 65, died Friday, March 1, 1996, in Richmond Memorial Hospital.
She was the former Laura Bonney of Annapolis, Md., and was a resident of Norfolk for 21 years. She started the story hour program for the library, and was also a founding member of the Norfolk Savoyards Ltd. She later began a career in public service for WTAR-TV/Radio and WHRO. Here she received two Addy awards for public service announcements. She then was recruited to help establish a fledgling station in Durham, N.C. Mrs. Hayes then started Advertising Marketing Services and the Hayes Company advertising agencies, where she received a Cleo award for advertising. In Port Royal, she served as a free-lance writer for the Caroline Progress; as a vestry member of St. Peters Church; and on the town council of Port Royal. Throughout her life, she voluntarily served on numerous boards and committees for such organizations at American Women in Radio and Television; the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, Historic Port Royal Inc., the Red Cross and many others. She also was a contributing member of an international puzzle club. Laura was a kind and loving woman whose quest for knowledge was second only to her love of life.
She is survived by her husband, Lorraine Bosch; mother, Ernestine Fowler of Annapolis, Md.; four daughters, Amy Hayes Castleberry of Indiana, Capt. Mary Hayes Giardina of the U.S. Air Force, Norfolk, Elizabeth Hayes Westerstrom of Goteborg, Sweden, and Nancy Hayes Pope of Portsmouth; two sisters, Ellen Milos and Jan Armentrout of Minnesota; two brothers, David Fowler and Ernest Fowler of Maryland; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at St. Peters Episcopal Church, Port Royal, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peters Church, Port Royal, Va., memorial fence fund.
