LELA B. WINNETTE

Lela Bordelon Winnette, 76, died March 9, 1996 in DePaul Hospital.

Mrs. Winnette, a native of Lake Charles, La., graduated from the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in New Orleans and received her R.N. in 1940. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. She married the late Cmdr. Charles R. Winnette and they resided in numerous cities in this country as well as in England and Africa. She chose to make Norfolk her home and enjoyed the fellowship of many friends here for the past 31 years. She was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include her son, Michael C. Winnette and his wife Nancy; a granddaughter, Randall Michelle Winnette all of Portsmouth; two sisters Genevieve Bordelon of New Orleans, and Marjorie B. Allums of Edna, Texas.

A Mass in her memory will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, in St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. William Dale. The family will receive friends at the Parish Hall following the Mass, and at other times at her son's home, 4028 Breakwater Drive, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
